Winter Camping in Michigan

Winter is upon us, and all of the Huron County Parks are closed until the spring. However, in these strange lock-downed times, there is still winter camping to be had in the Thumb area and beyond. Here are the closest year-round campgrounds, in increasing distance from Huron County:

North Park Campground: 836 North Lakeshore Road, Harbor Beach MI 48441 (p): (989) 479-9554. Tent & full hookup RV sites available. Campground includes tables, water station, dump station, firewood, cable tv, and a playground for kids of all ages.

Graham Memorial Park: Roach Rd, Croswell MI 48422. No RVs, All Ages, Tents Only Camp.

Bay City State Recreation Area: 3582 State Park Dr., Bay City, Michigan 48706 (p): (989) 684-3020. Campsites, mini cabins, picnic shelters for day use, electricity available, RV and trailer camping without water or sewer hook-ups, modern restrooms.

Pinconning County Park: E Pinconning Rd, Pinconning MI 48650 (p): (989) 879-5050. 62 sites, All Ages, Tents, electric, 20/30/50 amp, tables, grill, water, toilets, showers, dump, cabins.

Algonac State Park: 8732 River Road, Marine City, Michigan 48039 (p): (810) 765-5605. Campsites, RVs and trailers allowed, vault toilets, electricity available.

Rifle River State Recreation Area: 2550 Rose City Rd, Lupton, MI 48635 (p): (989( 473-2258. Campsites, electricity available, RV and trailer spaces without water or sewer hook-ups, picnic shelters, rustic cabins.

Tawas Point State Park: 686 Tawas Beach Rd, East Tawas, MI 48730. Camper cabin, campsites, electricity available, modern restrooms, mini cabins.
